Overview

SP Energy Networks (SPEN) is transforming its Telecoms function. Telecoms are a key part of the network’s business and a cornerstone in the evolution towards Net Zero. ScottishPower are recruiting a Senior Network Management Centre (NMC) Engineer to play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of ScottishPower’s strategic telecoms network.

Position: Senior NMC Engineer (Telecoms) | Location: ScottishPower HQ, Glasgow | Type: Permanent | Salary: From £53,280 per annum + excellent benefits | Working: Flexible & Hybrid


What You’ll Do

As a Senior NMC Engineer, you will be an SME responsible for all aspects of network operations, defining best practice and ensuring compliance. You will drive improvements in network performance, maximise uptime of services, and optimise network infrastructure to deliver excellent communication services while ensuring prompt and effective resolution of Major Incidents and proactive mitigation through investigation of the operational telecoms network.

Your responsibilities include:

* Network management checks: conduct routine checks, ensure network health and stability, protect systems from threats, and manage the network CMDB.
* Network monitoring and resolution standards: maintain monitoring, incident management and fault resolution standards and policies.
* Vendor management: work with vendors to maintain and improve operational performance and practices.
* Performance management: set and review operational KPIs; observe network traffic patterns and identify improvements; support event configuration and operational best practices.
* Proactive problem management: identify and manage network vulnerabilities; collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to implement changes.
* Documentation assurance: ensure documentation is comprehensive, accurate, up-to-date and suitable for live network services management.
* Service acceptance checks and approvals: perform checks on service changes and approve network changes.
* Emergency response: participate in incident resolution calls as escalation point and maintain stakeholder communications.
* Change management: manage and support changes in the telecom environment.


What You’ll Bring

The successful candidate will have:

* SME-level technical knowledge of Transmission Networks including PDH/SDH, MPLS TP, DWDM and related network management systems.
* Technical knowledge of network architecture and management systems; experience with OSS, Windows administration, Linux, SQL, VMware, DNS, Power BI, scripting, and HA environments.
* Understanding of IP protocols (IPv6, NTP, DNS, OSPF, BGP, SCTP, MPLS IP, STP, etc.).
* Experience with firewalls, Linux servers, Python scripting, VMware vCenter (beneficial).
* Experience applying test strategies and methodologies for critical telecom services.
* Knowledge of ITIL-style service management; experience managing network incidents and problems.
* Expertise in deployment, monitoring, management and troubleshooting of networks; familiarity with Cisco Prime, Nokia NFM-P and other network monitoring/configuration tools.
* Experience in a business-critical environment with strong interpersonal skills and ability to partner across business units and with vendors.


Minimum Requirements

* A degree in a related discipline with relevant certifications in transmission systems (PDH/SDH, MPLS TP) and/or IP (CISCO and/or Nokia).
* Demonstrable experience as a Senior NMC Engineer, Senior Engineer or equivalent.
