Overview
The Head of English and Modern Foreign Languages is in charge of an academic department comprising A Level English Language, A Level English Literature, A Level French and A Level Spanish. The Head oversees the implementation of strategic policies and advances the professional development of teachers and support staff within the team, continually assessing the performance of the department and its members.
Responsibilities
* Lead the department, providing strategic direction and leadership for teaching and learning across A Level English Language, English Literature, French and Spanish.
* Implement evidence-informed approaches to teaching, evaluate performance, and promote continuous improvement within the team.
* Work as a member of a collaborative team, sharing ideas and resources.
* Develop relationships with students based on equality, respect, joy and high aspirations.
* Lead on safeguarding and promote the welfare and safety of children and young people; ensure enhanced DBS disclosure and satisfactory references where applicable.
* Contribute to the broader school community and participate in pastoral and learning support as required.
The post is an ideal opportunity for a successful and ambitious individual to develop leadership experience and lead a team of professionals with a strong track record of academic success. A Level experience is an essential requirement. The successful candidate should be able to teach both A Level English Language and A Level English Literature, with English Language expected to form the majority of teaching responsibilities.
Qualifications and Experience
* Strong academic background in English with a passion for teaching and a deep understanding of both English Language and English Literature.
* Ability to lead, mentor colleagues, and contribute to the strategic direction of the department.
* Essential: A Level teaching experience in English Language and English Literature; A Level experience in English Language is an essential requirement; willingness to develop leadership responsibilities.
* Enhanced DBS disclosure and satisfactory references.
* Experience in safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people.

Salary: NSP1 - NSP9 (£33,465 - £51,714) plus Responsibility Allowance RES 8-11 (£6,437 - £9,892) depending on qualifications and experience.
