Senior Research Technician (110776-0825) – Fixed Term Contract and Full Time | 1.0 FTE / 36.5 hours per week | Funding for up to 12 months | Expected start date: 1st October 2025
Howard Dalton Centre funded project: Deconstructing energised associations that build and maintain the Gram-negative Bacterial Cell Envelope. The successful candidate will join the Webby group in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Warwick to investigate the molecular mechanisms underpinning cell envelope maintenance in Gram-negative bacteria and explore targets for potential therapeutics.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical assistance across molecular biology, bacterial microbiology, and protein expression and purification for multiple projects.
* Support downstream biochemical and biophysical analyses and collaborate with postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, and external partners (e.g., structural biologists, microbiologists, biochemists).
* Assist with day-to-day lab operations, including training new members, maintaining inventories, ordering consumables, and ensuring health and safety compliance.
* Contribute to the assembly and cooperation of protein complexes involved in preserving the three-layered Gram-negative cell envelope.
* Engage in a diverse research environment with access to media preparation facilities, cryo-EM, fluorescence imaging, and related resources.

About You
* Experience in molecular biology techniques, including cloning, mutagenesis, and expression screening, and protein purification of soluble and membrane proteins using affinity and size-exclusion chromatography.
* Strong background in microbiology with emphasis on sterile technique and bacterial cell culture.
* Hold a laboratory-based research Master’s degree (or equivalent hands-on experience) in biochemistry, biological sciences, or a related field.
* Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
