Balfour Beatty is playing a leading role in the delivery of SSEN Transmission’s high‑profile Netherton Hub, a flagship ASTI net‑zero infrastructure project in Aberdeenshire that will reshape how renewable power moves across the UK. As the Common Interface Contractor, the team is responsible for major civil engineering and building works, including construction of the Spittal–Peterhead HVDC converter station and the development of new 400kV and 132kV substations, all critical assets that will enable clean energy generated in the north of Scotland to reach homes and businesses nationwide. This multi‑billion‑pound programme not only supports the UK’s transition to low‑carbon power but also creates hundreds of skilled jobs, apprenticeships, and long‑term career opportunities, making it an exciting and meaningful project for candidates who want to help shape the future of the energy sector.


What you'll be doing

Primarily our Assistant Quantity Surveyor will be tasked to assist the QS / SQS / Commercial Leads on project or business unit to maximise our margins, reduce cost going out the business and increase timely cash collection into the business. Assisting in all processes required to safely deliver our works whilst maintaining compliance to company procedures and policies.


Key Accountabilities

* All duties required by the commercial department or project team, to ensure successful setup and running of a project or projects in compliance with all company standards and the GMCE’s and Gated Business Lifecycle.
* Advising the Project Manager and QS / Senior QS early of any potential over‑spends, non‑compliance and any other problem areas on the project or business unit.
* Assist the Project Team to ensure projects are set up on the company accounting system with a suitable Work Breakdown Structure in line with OPSTAT guidelines.
* Assist with accepting budget & tender data from successful tenders into the Company accounting/Reporting System.
* Assist with the QS / Commercial Department and Project Team with the preparation of the monthly project reports from the Company accounting/Reporting System.
* Support preparation of the monthly Applications and Invoicing to ensure timely submission of accurate documents aimed at maximising the company’s financial position.
* Support with notifying the client early of any increased project value or delay to project completion.
* Meet with the client’s representative as and when required.
* Assist with the collection of cash and pursuit of certificates from clients in a timely manner, to maximise the company’s cash flow position.
* Take responsibility for ensuring inputting of Applications and invoices (recording accurately) onto the company accounts system where applicable, including payment certificates.
* Take responsibility for the accuracy in producing accurate cash flow forecasts weekly.
* Assist in raising PO requisitions, GRN and Off Hiring of plant equipment on the company accounting system where necessary in order to ensure accurate cost information on projects.
* Take responsibility for ensuring inputting of Sub‑Contractor Certificates on the company accounting system where applicable and ensuring the accuracy of information being recorded.
* Assist with ensuring Sub‑Contracts are always administered correctly and to the benefit of the company.
* Assist with the project correspondence and any potential time barring, also make the Project Team aware of contentious project correspondence.
* Assist with identifying and recording change control opportunities together with inputting change control items to the company accounting system where applicable.
* Take responsibility for the provision of and copying substantiation for project change and/or costs.
* Meet with the client as required to discuss agreement and levels of substantiation required to close out change control items.
* Take responsibility for the accuracy and timely manner with administration of the Company accounting/Reporting system.
* To manage, coach, motivate and educate any staff placed under your charge.
