Job Summary
Are you looking for an exciting new challenge? We are looking for three highly motivated Pharmacy Technicians to improve Medicines Optimisation across Greater Manchester.
Positions available: 2 in Trafford (1 GP Practice focus, 1 care homes focus) and 1 in Wigan (GP Practice and care homes focus).
The post holder will promote and facilitate safe and effective, high quality and cost‑effective prescribing and medication management in the base locality and across Greater Manchester. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance, implementing high‑quality changes in prescribing patterns, serving as a medicines optimisation link person for specified GP practices and care homes, and supporting medicines optimisation initiatives aligned with primary care priorities.
Job Responsibilities
* Identify, implement and deliver on Medicines Optimisation, Primary Care Quality, and QIPP objectives.
* Influence and change prescribing habits of prescribers in primary and secondary care.
* Support locality and GM Medicines Optimisation teams to ensure effective implementation of work programmes and strategies.
* Develop, implement, and complete clinical and non‑clinical audits to support Medicines Optimisation objectives and improve prescribing quality.
* Provide information, advice and query answering in relation to general medicines management issues in line with national and regional guidance.
* Use prescribing data, information, knowledge, and technology to contribute to the management of the prescribing budget and support a portfolio of Medicines Optimisation projects and initiatives.
* Participate in training of GP practice staff, community pharmacy staff, and other multi‑disciplinary health and social care professionals where appropriate.
* Support local authorities to improve and/or assure medicines optimisation within care homes and for patients receiving care at home.
* Carry out medication optimisation reviews in domiciliary, care home, or clinic settings, meeting vulnerable patients and carers as referred by other professionals or identified during audit.
* Communicate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and provide reassurance to patients when necessary, including difficult discussions concerning sensitive issues.
* Collaborate with wider teams to contribute to overall health care quality improvement and health inequalities agenda, providing medicines‑related advice to support improved patient care pathways.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services, or equivalent with knowledge and experience of pharmacy and technical procedures to degree level.
* ECDL or equivalent advanced computer skills.
Desirable Qualifications
* CPPE Primary Care Pharmacy Education Course completion, enrollment or exemption, or equivalent nationally recognised pathway.
Essential Experience
* Extensive post‑qualification experience as a hospital, primary care or community Pharmacy Technician.
* Experience of prescribing data analysis and use of Business Intelligence tools such as ePACT2.
Desirable Experience
* Experience delivering training to pharmacy staff and other multidisciplinary professionals.
* Experience in communications and stakeholder management.
