Assistant Quality Manager

Are you passionate about quality and compliance in the food manufacturing industry? We’re looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Quality Manager to support the continued development and improvement of our quality systems, ensuring we consistently meet and exceed customer, legal, and industry standards.
Reporting to the Quality Manager, you’ll work collaboratively with site teams to uphold our high standards in food safety, quality assurance, and compliance, while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Quality Manager in maintaining and improving the site’s Quality Management Systems and technical policies.
* Manage customer and retailer systems, ensuring policies, codes of practice, and specifications are implemented and regularly reviewed.
* Plan and execute internal audits to meet business, customer, and third-party requirements, ensuring timely close-out of actions.
* Actively participate in and, where appropriate, lead customer and third-party audits and site visits.
* Maintain accurate records in ERP systems, including product specs, complaints, and corrective actions.
* Investigate and resolve technical issues, working closely with local and group teams.
* Assist in managing supplier approval processes and ensuring raw materials and packaging meet required standards.
* Ensure customer quality assessments are completed and actioned as per agreed specifications.
* Support internal and external testing schedules, reviewing results and initiating any required actions.
What We’re Looking For:
* Proven experience in Quality Assurance within a food manufacturing environment
* HACCP and Food Hygiene & Safety training
* Internal audit training and practical audit experience
* Working knowledge of BRC standards
* Experience supporting or participating in customer and third-party audits
Desirable:
* Experience with major retailer standards and requirements
* Previous experience in food ingredient manufacturing
* Strong IT system knowledge, particularly ERP and specification systems
* Familiarity with legal labelling and pack design regulations
