The Role
As part of the SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, we are recruiting for a Project Engineer- Interfaces requirement to join our HVDC Engineering Team. With several major HVDC projects underway, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in one of the UK’s most important energy infrastructure programmes.
While direct HVDC experience would be an advantage, it is not essential. We encourage candidates with a project engineering background, ideally with an electrical, civil or mechanical engineering background, ideally within the energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors. If you’ve developed your career in construction, consultancy, or client organisations and are ready to take on larger, more complex projects, this role will give you the platform to do so.
Responsibilities
* Manage engineering design interfaces across major HVDC packages, including civils, AC systems, and cables, ensuring smooth collaboration between all parties.
* Take ownership of the Design Interface Registers, working closely with contractors to align inputs, resolve design issues early, and keep project data accurate and up to date.
* Manage the design submittals process using Autodesk Construction Cloud, helping ensure submissions are high-quality, traceable, and delivered on time.
* Act as a key link between SSEN teams and external partners, keeping everyone informed with clear updates on interface risks, progress, and next steps.
* Champion a positive safety culture and support compliance with CDM regulations and SSEN's engineering standards throughout the project lifecycle.
* Support the development of interface management awareness across the project, supporting your colleagues in identifying and managing design and quality risks effectively.
Requirements
* A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably electrical, mechanical, or civil). Chartered status or working toward it is desirable.
* Around 5–7 years’ experience in project engineering or design coordination, ideally with exposure to complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
* Proven ability to manage interfaces between teams, contractors, and disciplines, with a track record of identifying interface risks early and implementing appropriate risk mitigation strategies
* Experience supporting or leading elements of multi-disciplinary design coordination, with a good understanding of how design, construction, and programme interdependencies are managed.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into clear language for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Familiarity in using digital collaboration platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), or similar tools for managing design submissions, interface registers, and structured workflows.
