Job description
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer requred by my client an Internationally renowned technolgy group .Working with their RAS/FAS Value Stream team in Gateshead, UK.
Key Responsibilities will Include :
1. Leading the technical delivery of projects, overseeing a multi-disciplinary team
2. Develop Mechanical Engineering solutions that fulfil client requirements, progressing from requirements capture through concept design to product development, commissioning, and in-service support
3. Identify and develop R&D and Continuous Improvement opportunities
4. Investigate safety and technical problems using structured problem-solving techniques
5. Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
6. Provide technical reference and guidance to equipment suppliers, internal departments, and customers; approve and witness factory tests and inspections at suppliers' works
7. Manage supplier interfaces and provide technical assistance and approval to suppliers
8. Check the technical work of others and provide technical guidance to colleagues in other departments as well as to suppliers and customers
9. Create technical design appraisal documents for submission to marine classification societies
10. Manage requirements, risks, assumptions, interfaces, and issues during all design phases
Job Requirements:
11. BEng in a Mechanical Engineering discipline or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience
12. Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership with the IMECHE or other relevant institute
13. Engineering experience relevant to this role
14. Experience of working in a highly regulated industry
15. Previous experience with offshore oil and gas or the Maritime industry is preferred
16. Proven track record in leading the technical delivery of projects to quality, cost, and schedule
17. Experience spanning concept, product development, and in-service (ILS) support
18. Experience with creation of equipment assembly arrangements and Engineering Bills of Materials using an ERP/MRP system
19. Assessment of designs to ensure code compliance using hand calculations and Finite Elements Analysis (FEA)
20. Production of technical specifications, test procedures, and technical manuals for marine application mechanical systems and components
21. Experience with 2D and 3D CAD systems such as AutoCAD and Creo
22. Competent user of MS Office suite of programmes
23. Conversant with BS EN 8888 and BS EN 22553 for the production of drawings
24. Ability to work in a controlled documentation environment, be self-motivated, and positively contribute to a coherent team
25. Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with formal external approval bodies such as marine classification societies and UK Ministry of Defence departments
