Overview

Hyett Education are recruiting Activity Instructors to support and lead a range of predominantly computing and science workshops across the UK (predominantly England and Wales).

Prior experience with STEM is desirable but not essential as we will provide extensive training for the successful candidate/s. We are a small team making a big impact and looking to extend our capacity and reach in schools. We will consider either a Trainee position (without QTS) or a QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) position.

Current Roles by Location: Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire

We are currently seeking a STEM Workshop Instructor to cover the areas of Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, as well as North, West and South London.

Job Title: Trainee STEM Workshop Instructor (without QTS) or STEM Workshop Instructor (with QTS)


Responsibilities

* Support more experienced members of staff in the preparation and delivery of various STEM workshops
* Support the process of developing new resources or workshop ideas
* Undergo various training courses linked to providing services in schools, such as Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding Training

Typical day

A typical day would be 7.45am-3.30pm onsite with workshop hours between 9am-3.15pm with children. Staff are expected to arrive onsite at 7.45am to set up; pack down is typically 20-45 minutes. There may be up to 2 hours travel each way, or the need to stay overnight near the workshop location.


Ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will be responsible and reliable, punctual, presentable, and personable. They should build positive relationships with children, school staff and Hyett Education colleagues, offer exemplary customer service, and be motivated to reflect on and improve the service delivered. They must be able to work well with children.

Subject knowledge in Science, Computing, Engineering and Mathematics is desired but not essential. We will provide a training programme for any candidates who need support with this content for the workshops they will deliver.

* Paediatric Emergency First Aid
* Safeguarding/Child Protection
* Qualified Teacher or Trainee Teacher/Teaching Assistant/HLTA/Childminder/Activity Instructor
* Experience working with children
* Training will be provided as part of successful candidates induction


Role details

* We will consider full-time and part-time roles
* Pay is based on experience, training, qualifications and level of responsibility undertaken
* Unqualified Trainee Instructors pay will range from £18,000 pa - £24,000 pa during training; after training, salary can increase up to £30,000 pa
* Instructors with QTS pay will range from £30,000 pa to £40,000 pa depending on prior experience
* For a full-time role, a typical week includes three/four days in schools and one/two days for preparation, planning, and professional development
* A typical day would be 7.45am-3.30pm onsite with workshop hours 9am-3.15pm; travel may be up to 2 hours each way and overnight stays may be required


Leave and eligibility

* For a full-time role, 28 days annual leave (including Bank Holidays)
* Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) for up to 28 weeks
* Maternity/Paternity leave terms as specified (e.g., 100% pay for up to 4 weeks of maternity leave, etc.)
* Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK; no visa sponsorship provided
* A clear Enhanced DBS is required; applicants without a clear DBS will be rejected
* Valid UK driving license with access to your own vehicle to transport equipment; a company car may be provided in certain circumstances
* We expect all serious candidates to have researched the company to ensure a suitable fit for the work in schools
