Salary: £50,000 - 60,000 per year Requirements: We require proven experience as a Data Engineer in a cloud-based data environment. We require strong hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark. We require experience building or improving medallion architecture, including Bronze, Silver and Gold data layers. We require strong SQL skills for transformation, validation and data analysis. We require experience with Python or Scala for data engineering, automation or scripting. We require experience extracting, ingesting and integrating data from APIs. We require a good understanding of data quality, data controls and reliability in production data environments. We require experience working with cloud data services, ideally Azure, with AWS or GCP also relevant. We require strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. We consider exposure to Delta Lake, Databricks Workflows, scheduling tools or lakehouse environments beneficial. We consider understanding of Power BI, reporting data models, governance, cataloguing or lineage useful. Responsibilities: We maintain, improve and optimise an existing Databricks data platform. We build and enhance scalable data pipelines using Spark, SQL and Python or Scala. We develop and mature Bronze, Silver and Gold layers to support analytics, reporting and downstream data use. We ingest and integrate data from APIs, databases and other source systems. We design data quality rules, validation checks and exception reporting to improve trust in business data. We investigate data issues, identify root causes and implement fixes that prevent recurring problems. We work with analysts, BI developers and business stakeholders to understand requirements and turn them into practical engineering solutions. We support the design of curated data models for reporting and analytical consumption. We monitor workflow performance, troubleshoot failures and improve the reliability of data processes. We contribute to better documentation, governance, naming standards, lineage and data access practices. We identify opportunities to automate, simplify and standardise data engineering workflows.
