Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of works on a groundworks/civils programme, operating from Reading. The role is suited to a Project Manager with a strong background working for sub-contractors on major civils and groundworks infrastructure.
You will be responsible for managing programme, cost, quality, safety, and stakeholder interfaces while ensuring subcontract works are delivered in line with client standards, NEC contracts, and principal contractor requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the end-to-end delivery of subcontracted works within the framework, from planning through to handover
* Take ownership of programme delivery, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, and within budget
* Coordinate site activities, resources, plant, materials, and subcontract labour
* Ensure compliance with requirements, client specifications, and relevant industry standards
* Produce and submit the SSOW in a timely manner
* Ensure the SSOW are being adhered to.
* Coordinate all Temporary Works and ensure timely submission to maintain program delivery
* Administer NEC contracts, including early warnings, compensation events, and change control
* Work closely with Principal Contractors, client representatives, designers, and supply chain partners
* Lead and promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture in line with client and company policies
* Monitor commercial performance, forecasts, and cost value reconciliation (CVR)
* Manage risk, mitigation strategies, and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle
* Ensure quality assurance processes, inspections, and documentation are completed and maintained
* Produce accurate project reporting, progress updates, and site records
* Support and mentor site teams, including Engineers and Supervisors
Key Requirements
* Proven experience as a Project Manager for a subcontractor on major infrastructure or rail projects
* Strong understanding of civil engineering and infrastructure works (e.g. earthworks, structures, utilities, rail civils)
* Experience working under NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4)
* Excellent knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
* Ability to manage multiple work fronts in a complex, high-pressure environment
* Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and cost controls
* Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
* SC Cleared or ability to obtain
* First Aid at Work (desirable)
* Chartered or working towards chartership (ICE, CIOB, APM) – desirable
