An exciting secondment opportunity has become available within the Renal Directorate. We are recruiting a Band 6 Advanced Kidney Care Sister/Charge Nurse to work with the Advanced Kidney Care team.
The secondment will be for 9 months and the successful candidate, with the Advanced Kidney Care team, will have responsibility for providing vital information and support to patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) who are approaching renal replacement therapy (RRT) be it haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, renal transplant or conservative management. The role is vital to our renal patients and ensures they are as informed as possible, allows to ensure they get the treatment of choice and assists in keeping them well and off RRT for as long as possible. When RRT is required, the role assists to make the transition to RRT as smooth as possible.

Main duties of the job
The secondment will be for 9 months and the successful candidate, with the Advanced Kidney Care team, will have responsibility for providing vital information and support to patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) who are approaching renal replacement therapy (RRT) be it haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, renal transplant or conservative management.
The successful candidate will participate in the specialist nurse rota to provide cover for the Renal Rapid Review clinic at Preston, you will provide support and advice for in-patients who may need an unplanned start to dialysis or palliative care and you will provide support for MDT clinics, nurse-led clinics and home visits across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
1. Appropriate NMC Registration
2. Renal course (either ENB 136 or equivalent)
3. NMC recognised Mentorship qualification
4. Evidence of continuing education or development for more experienced Band 5 nurses
5. RN1, RN2 General Nursing Posts
Desirable criteria
6. Degree
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
7. In-depth experience of working in renal nursing
8. Willing to expand clinical role eg IV additives, venepuncture and cannulation
9. Awareness of changes within Nursing practice
10. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
11. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
Desirable criteria
12. Knowledge of ethical issues
13. Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality eg surgery
14. Knowledge of Leadership and Management
15. Research and Development
