Job Title: HR Advisor (HEO)
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne (NE4 7AR)

Contract Type: Temporary (Until 31st March 2026, with possible extension)
Pay Rate: £17.25 per hour (paid weekly)
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday - General Office Hours
Working Pattern: Hybrid - 2 days per week in the office
Brook Street are proud to be supporting our Public Sector client, the Marine Management Organisation (MMO), in their recruitment of an HR Advisor (HEO) to join their Newcastle-based team.
About the Role:
The HR Advisor plays a vital role in supporting the wider HR function and contributing to the organisation's people strategy. This is a varied operational role, requiring excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills. You will work closely with managers, employees, and other HR colleagues to provide trusted, professional HR advice and support.
This is a key role in helping the organisation develop and maintain effective HR practices while supporting both day-to-day operations and longer-term projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Act as a first point of contact for HR queries, providing 1st line HR support across the organisation
2. Advise on recruitment and selection processes, including writing job descriptions and supporting interview panels
3. Support and lead recruitment campaigns using Oleeo and liaising with SSCL (Shared Services)
4. Provide advice on policies, employment law, absence management, and performance management
5. Assist with disciplinary and grievance processes, including investigations and hearings
6. Review and update HR policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance
7. Contribute to HR projects, working closely with HR Business Partners (HRBPs) and the wider HR team
8. Analyse HR data, prepare reports, and help drive evidence-based decision-making
9. Support initiatives around Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, employee engagement, and capability building
Essential Skills and Experience:
10. Strong generalist HR experience
11. Solid understanding of UK employment law
12. Proven experience advising on disciplinary, grievance, and absence cases
13. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills
14. Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
15. Strong IT skills and experience using HR systems
16. Analytical mindset with good attention to detail
17. Adaptable, resilient, and able to work under pressure
Desirable Qualifications:
Working towards or holding a relevant HR qualification such as:
18. CIPD Level 3 (Associate Membership)
19. Certificate in HR Practice
20. Intermediate Certificate in HR Management
21. S/NVQ Level 4 in Business Administration
22. HR Apprenticeship
