Job overview

The post is based in the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Rheumatology department at Hammersmith Hospital (HH). In our departments, a multidisciplinary approach to the management of rheumatic diseases is regarded as a prerequisite for delivering high quality patient care and we work closely and collaboratively with other specialties such as Renal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology and Radiology. The ICHNT Rheumatology department serves the northwest London area and is recognised as national and international leading centres in the treatment of rheumatic conditions. Furthermore, we work closely with local community musculoskeletal services providers. This is a locum, vacancy cover, 80% whole time equivalent until October 2026. The post is suitable for doctors with a rheumatology and general medicine knowledge equivalent to ST6/ST7 grade, and it is an exciting opportunity to join a Rheumatology department recognised for its exceptional care and multidisciplinary approach

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will deliver a broad range of Rheumatology services including outpatient general rheumatology clinics, specialist clinics such as LVV and scleroderma, inpatient Rheumatology reviews and ward referrals, and participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, The department provides training for specialist trainees and has a history of collaborating in translational and bench research through close working relationships with Imperial College. The successful candidate will work with medical, nursing, and managerial colleagues to ensure clinical efficiency, quality of outcomes, financial management and operational efficiency. They will be supported to maintain up-to-date portfolio for training and revalidation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a locum 80% whole time equivalent post based at Hammersmith Hospital. The role entails:

•3 Rheumatology outpatient clinics per week

•Inpatient referrals review (daily rota at HH site)

•Weekly DCC meetings

•Support the nurse team in dealing with clinical queries

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria

1. On GMC’s register with a Licence to Practice
2. IMT or equivalent
3. MRCP

Desirable criteria

4. MD, PhD

KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS

Essential criteria

5. Appropriate rheumatology and general medicine knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems. Capacity for excellent clinical & diagnostic skills & judgement. Demonstrates ability to prioritise clinical need & to look at the social context of medical problems. Successful completion of Basic Life Support course (or equivalent)
6. IT Skills and computer literacy

TEACHING/ TRAINING

7. Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates and junior medical staff
