Consultant Psychiatrist - Dover Old Age Community
Are you a passionate geriatric psychiatrist seeking a leadership role with impact? We are Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT), seeking a dedicated Consultant to join our team in Dover & Deal, in the \"Garden of England\". The Community Mental Health Care Group Older Persons (CMHCGOP) for Dover and Deal provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment services for the over-65 population in the Dover and Deal areas. You will join a dedicated, professional and supportive team alongside one Consultant colleague, with opportunities for professional development.
Successful applicants will ideally have MRCPsych or equivalent and be on, or within six months of inclusion on, the Specialist Register. You will be fully registered with the GMC, have Approved Clinician status and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act (or achieve this within 3 months of appointment).
Responsibilities
* Provide psychiatric care to patients referred to the Dover/Deal CMHSOP and provide senior medical leadership within the multidisciplinary team.
* Hold outpatient clinics (face to face, via video or telephone), conduct home visits, and perform reviews in residential and nursing homes.
* Conduct MCA and MHA assessments, attend complex case discussions, CPA and 117 review meetings, and remain available for urgent clinical matters.
* Attend daily RED Board and referral triage meetings, weekly clinical meetings, monthly complex case discussions and governance meetings.
* Support the team in maintaining MSNAP accreditation for the Memory Assessment Service.
* Liaise with referrers, allied professionals, Social Services, carers, voluntary organisations, client groups, and contribute to multi-agency working.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification; fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
* On the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of eligibility; Approved Clinician status or ability to achieve within 3 months of appointment; Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Essential clinical skills in old age psychiatry and ability to work in a bio-psycho-social framework; excellent communication skills in English; ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty; ability to make decisions with evidence and team input; ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
Desirable
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych; additional clinical qualifications; good standing with GMC regarding warnings/conditions.
Transport and Academic/Professional
* Holds and uses a valid UK driving licence or provides evidence of an alternative.
* Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training; able to lead a team; committed to shared leadership and collaborative improvement; participate in CPD, research or service evaluation; ability to use and appraise clinical evidence; active participation in clinical audits and quality improvement.
