Overview
An exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician to join our Clinical Pharmacy team at the St Richards site. We are actively seeking a reliable and self‑motivated individual with a positive attitude to work and provide essential patient‑facing services across medical, surgical and emergency floors.
Responsibilities
* Provide medicines optimisation service to wards, including medicines reconciliation, patient counselling and final accuracy checks of prescriptions within the main pharmacy department and on pharmacy hubs.
* Participate in cost‑improvement, audit and quality–improvement projects, and support the development of clinical pharmacy services.
* Train and supervise nursing and pharmacy staff on medicines optimisation processes; deliver in‑service training and co‑ordinate with the Pharmacy Education Department.
* Act as line‑manager and expert witness for trainee pharmacy technicians, including educational supervision and competency assessment.
* Maintain accurate medication reviews, engage with patients, families and carers, and manage medication arrangements for complex patients.
* Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and official directives; support patient safety initiatives through EPMA/JAC System and other electronic prescribing tools.
* Communicate effectively with the clinical pharmacy team, ward staff, external partners and senior management to prioritise workload and promote safe medication practice.
* Lead and support educational and research projects, including audits, surveys and strategy‑deployment initiatives that improve pharmacy services.
* Execute responsibilities related to financial and physical development, including cost‑effective medication use and minimising waste.
* Report and resolve queries efficiently, referring to appropriate staff or senior pharmacists when required.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Medicines Optimisation accredited.
* Accuracy Checking accredited.
* Willing to undertake the Educational Supervisor course.
* Willing to act as Expert Witness and line manager for trainee technicians.
* Full UK employment status, eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship if required.
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Strong analytics, judgement, planning and organisational skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, healthcare professionals and University Hospitals Sussex partners.
