About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and experienced Deputy Manager to help lead a children's residential home in Tamworth. You will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the home provides safe, nurturing, and high-quality care for children and young people with emotional and behavioural needs.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in residential childcare who is ready to step into leadership or further develop their management experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Support
* Support the Registered Manager in ensuring the home is fully compliant with all relevant regulations and quality standards.
* Lead shifts and act as a role model, offering guidance and direction to care staff.
* Create and manage staff rotas, authorise annual leave, and ensure adequate cover at all times.
* Conduct supervisions, appraisals, and probation reviews for team members.
* Provide support to keyworkers and oversee designated areas such as health and safety, medication, and food hygiene.
* Mentor and support new staff as part of their induction and ongoing development.
* Deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager, ensuring the home continues to operate effectively.
Child-Centred Care
* Safeguard and promote the wellbeing of all children living in the home.
* Ensure care plans, activity schedules and support strategies are implemented, regularly reviewed, and tailored to each childs needs.
* Support children in developing life skills, education, and personal development through consistent structure and positive relationships.
* Attend and contribute to planning meetings, reviews, education and health appointments.
* Promote a safe, therapeutic and homely environment where children feel valued and supported.
Compliance & Quality
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, reports and risk assessments.
* Support the home in meeting Ofsted standards and play an active role in inspections.
* Contribute to service improvement by identifying shortfalls and proposing solutions.
* Ensure safeguarding procedures are adhered to and understood by all staff.
Essential Requirements
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent must be completed).
* Experience working in a childrens residential home.
* Strong understanding of child development, safeguarding, and the Childrens Homes Regulations 2015.
* Ability to lead shifts and supervise staff effectively.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
* Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards).
* Experience with trauma-informed or therapeutic approaches.
* Prior involvement in Ofsted inspections.
