The successful applicant will join a well‑established team of seven consultants, supported by a group of specialist registrars, alongside a wider multidisciplinary team including inpatient/virtual ward nurses, specialist nursing teams, matron, physician associates, respiratory physiology team, pharmacist, and dedicated administrative and management staff.
The role involves delivering high‑quality, consultant‑led patient care, providing clinical leadership and supervision to junior medical staff, ensuring consistently high standards of care across the service. Responsibilities include ensuring patients receive prompt assessment, timely treatment and effective clinical decision‑making; maintaining high standards of safety, quality and performance; contributing to teaching and supporting the training and development of resident/specialty doctors; actively engaging in the department’s clinical governance agenda; leading continuous learning and improvement; working collaboratively with clinicians and managers both within and outside the department to address service‑related issues; participating in audit and quality improvement activities; maintaining effective communication with local GPs and community services; managing and supporting a multidisciplinary team; participating in the (GIM) on‑call rota; contributing to service development and innovation; supporting the implementation of new clinical pathways; ensuring accurate, timely clinical documentation and effective use of electronic patient record systems; providing cross‑cover and support to other ward areas when required.
