Maintain Design Integrity Branch Manager
Location: Gloucester or Bristol (3 days per week). Employment basis: Permanent full-time or part-time. Working pattern: Office-based with hybrid flexibility; must be able to attend in person when required. Typical on-site requirement is around 3 days per week, subject to team needs. Flexibility to be on site when needed is essential.
Salary: From £75,000 dependent on experience. Role: Maintain Design Integrity Branch Manager
Overview
The Maintain Design Integrity (MDI) Branch Manager leads multidisciplinary teams to maintain design integrity across key safety and environmental domains. The role requires strategic leadership, the ability to navigate complex issues, and effective engagement with regulators, government bodies and senior stakeholders up to Director level.
Responsibilities
* Oversee three core groups: MDI team, Hazards team and Flooding DA team. Provide technical breadth to guide work across all groups and manage a branch of staff and embedded contractors.
* Ensure Sizewell C maintains the design integrity and the overall basis of safety for all lifecycle stages.
* Act as the intelligent customer for safety case activities and understand, own, and control the safety case during design and construction phases.
* Collaborate closely with the Safety Case Branch and other design authorities to ensure compliance with licence conditions and design change processes.
The Person
We are seeking a strong, technically agile leader with proven leadership experience who can navigate fast-moving issues and provide clear, authoritative input on design integrity matters.
Qualifications
* Degree in Engineering, Physics or a related scientific discipline.
* Knowledge of Safety Cases, including UK-specific requirements.
* Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to work flexibly with multi-disciplinary teams and make robust decisions.
* Experience delivering recommendations to executives and managing stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
* Awareness of international standards, OPEX and best practice; ability to ensure ALARP principles are followed.
Desirable
* Knowledge of UK Nuclear Site Licence Conditions and related regulatory requirements.
