Job Summary

We are looking for a qualified and experienced lawyer with a passion for safeguarding vulnerable adults to join our Children and Adults Legal team at Nottingham City Council. This role involves Court of Protection proceedings, adult social care legal work, and support for the Adult Social Care, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Deputyship teams, and Approved Mental Health Professionals.


Responsibilities

* Welfare, financial and deprivation of liberty issues arising under the Mental Capacity Act 2005
* Application of the Care Act 2014 including ordinary residence disputes
* Mental Health Act matters including displacement of nearest relative
* Opportunities to become involved with SARs and Inquests

You will have secretarial and paralegal support, and you will collaborate with other team members. The role suits a candidate with significant experience in complex Adults Social Care legal work.

You will have excellent communication, analytical and drafting skills, be able to manage a full caseload and be willing to undertake advocacy at the appropriate level.


Qualifications

* Admitted Solicitor with PQE or barrister with substantial experience post call to the Bar.
* Considerable experience in adult social care legal practice.
* At least a year working in a local authority legal department.
* Confidence managing a complex and varied caseload, undertaking advocacy at the appropriate level and supporting junior colleagues.
