We're looking for a proactive and reliable Facilities Assistant to help ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of our buildings and support the wider academic community. Working as part of the Facilities Team, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for staff, students, and visitors.
About the Role
This is a hands-on role that involves a wide range of responsibilities across multiple buildings and sites. The position operates on a shift basis, covering a 7-day schedule, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and some periods without direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct daily site inspections to check cleanliness and readiness of spaces.
2. Set up and reset seminar rooms, lecture theatres, and event spaces according to required layouts.
3. Receive, log, transport, and distribute deliveries and post.
4. Support site security, including unlocking/locking buildings and responding to incidents as the first point of contact during evenings and weekends.
5. Assist with office relocations and coordinate access for removal services.
6. Carry out general maintenance tasks such as litter picking, hanging noticeboards, and waste management.
7. Monitor and manage site car parking, liaising with tenants where necessary.
8. Operate both general and facilities-specific IT systems.
9. Provide first-response support for AV equipment in meeting rooms and lecture theatres.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone with a practical approach, strong communication skills, and a flexible attitude to shift work. Previous experience in a similar facilities or maintenance role is beneficial but not essential, full training will be provided.
