Job summary


Are you an experienced Therapeutic Radiographer ready to take the next step in your career? Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dynamic and motivated Band 7 Specialist Radiographer to join our Beacon Radiotherapy team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and innovate within a forward-thinking department committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred cancer care.

As a Specialist Radiographer, you will oversee a designated area of the radiotherapy treatment pathway, supervise staff up to Band 6, and contribute to service development, research, and quality improvement initiatives. You'll be recognised as an expert in your field, supporting the delivery of safe and accurate radiotherapy treatments and using advanced communication skills to guide patients through their care journey.

We offer a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with opportunities to lead in specialist areas such as imaging, education, quality, research, and site-specific services (e.g., breast, palliative, urology). You'll also play a key role in mentoring junior staff and driving innovation across the service.

Main duties, tasks & skills required


To be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of a pre-treatment / preparation / treatment / review area in the department, ensuring high standards are maintained and that staff are kept up to date with operational and technological developments.

To undertake supervision responsibilities for a team, ensuring that departmental and Trust policies are applied consistently.

To plan and / or deliver safe and accurate radiotherapy treatment.

To be recognised and accessible as an expert in radiotherapy, with a focus on the quality elements of the service, including supporting management in the delivery of quality objectives.

To use expert knowledge to identify gaps in the evidence base, making a critical analysis of new evidence and its relevance, and contribute to this evidence base by supervising and participating in high quality audit and research programmes.

To be involved with the development of radiotherapy services.

To use advanced communication skills to support patients and carers in informed decision making about their care.

To assist and deputise for the radiotherapy management team as required.
