Summary
Freedom is currently seeking an OHL Design Engineer to join the electrical services design team based in London or Stowmarket. The role involves working on complex engineering projects aligned with the country’s Net Zero targets, covering the entire energy system from generation to load-end consumers in sectors like manufacturing, processing, data, and recycling.
The successful candidate will collaborate with the team lead to design and deliver overhead line (OHL) projects, providing technical expertise and guidance.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Design and develop OHL projects, ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards and client specifications.
2. Develop technical solutions related to conductor sizing, insulator selection, lightning protection, and structural design.
3. Review and approve technical documents, including specifications, drawings, and calculations.
4. Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure project delivery within scope, time, and quality standards.
5. Support and mentor team members, including tendering and training junior engineers.
6. Operate within established quality assurance and project management frameworks.
7. Participate in site visits, inspections, and meetings as necessary.
Qualifications and experience required:
* Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
* Experience in OHL design within the power transmission and distribution sector.
* Strong knowledge of OHL design principles and UK standards.
* Experience with designing, calculating, and producing reports and drawings for projects from 11kV to 400kV.
* Proficiency in design software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER.
* Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
* Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
* Understanding of CDM 2015 and Electricity Safety Regulations.
* Knowledge of AutoCAD 3D; MicroStation CAD skills are desirable.
* Full UK driving license.
