Job Summary
A unique opportunity has arisen for a new Consultant Psychiatrist within the Learning Disability Service. The service operates across Hull and East Riding, providing inpatient, Intensive Support and Community Learning Disability Services delivered by multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams.
Medical staff in the Trust are actively involved in teaching students in the Hull/York Medical School (HYMS), and there will be an opportunity for the post holder to become involved in this work.
This is an exciting post with the opportunity to help shape the future of Learning Disability Services for Hull and East Riding – you will need to be flexible, visionary and have the interpersonal skills to engage with patients and carers and develop excellent professional working relationships with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams.
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC. Applicants must be included on the GMC's Specialist Register or within 6 months of being included in the Specialist Register for Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability.
Key Responsibilities
* Work alongside 2 other Consultants to provide a service across the range of pathways for both the Hull and East Riding areas.
* Offer clinical input and support to multi-disciplinary teams within this specialist area and undertake urgent assessments when required.
* Provide input to the Intensive Support Team.
* Be approved as a Responsible Clinician or undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA and renew this approval according to agreed procedures.
* Comply with the Ministry of Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA) duties.
* Maintain the ability to commute within the Trust’s geographical area with access to the appropriate means of transport.
* Provide clinical leadership in delivering education and training to staff and students.
* Engage in continuous professional development, research, service evaluation, and quality improvement programmes.
Qualifications - Essential
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
* Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months
* Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment (section 12(2) status)
* Hold a valid UK driving licence or provide evidence of an alternative
* Excellent knowledge in specialty and excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
* Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
* Makes decisions based on evidence and experience, including the contribution of others
Qualifications - Desirable
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
* MRCPsych
* Additional clinical qualifications
* In good standing with the GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
* Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the post within NHS or comparable service
* Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
* Experienced in clinical research and/or service evaluation
* Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications
* Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes for patients

All appointments are permanent, full-time, and flexible working is available. The salary range is £109,725 to £145,478 per year, and the pay scheme is Hospital medical and dental staff. The role is located at Townend Court, 298 Cottingham Road, Hull, HU6 8QG.
