Project Manager (Project Design Manager) - Balfour Beatty (@one Alliance)
Location: Peterborough - with Hybrid working
@one Alliance a ground-breaking collaboration between Anglian Water and seven industry-leading partners: Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO. Together, we deliver over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.

The Role
As a Project Design Manager, you will lead the design and technical delivery of key water and water recycling projects. You’ll manage multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, sustainable solutions across both infrastructure (pipelines, pumping stations) and non‑infrastructure (treatment and storage) schemes.
You’ll take ownership of the full design lifecycle, from concept through to delivery, ensuring high‑quality, right‑first‑time outputs that prioritise low carbon design, digital innovation and environmental performance.
What you’ll be doing
Key Responsibilities
* Lead design and technical delivery of clean water and water recycling schemes
* Develop Engineering Project Plans covering scope, programme, cost, risk and resources
* Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across civil, mechanical, electrical and process design
* Drive digital design, including BIM and 3D modelling
* Embed sustainability, low‑carbon solutions and whole‑life value into design
* Engage with stakeholders, partners and suppliers to integrate design inputs
* Ensure compliance with CDM and health & safety standards
* Mentor and lead design teams, supporting development and performance
* Collaborate with project, construction, procurement and environmental teams to deliver efficient outcomes
About You
* Degree in Engineering or equivalent (chartered or working towards preferred)
* Strong design management experience, ideally within water or infrastructure
* Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams delivering complex projects
* Technical knowledge of water or water recycling systems
* Experience in design & build or collaborative delivery environments
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
* Passion for sustainability, innovation and digital design
