SEN Teaching Assistant (Primary)
About the school
We are working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Barnet that prides itself on its strong sense of community. The school is small enough to provide a secure, nurturing environment but large enough to offer rich and varied learning experiences. Staff here are passionate about providing outstanding academic and pastoral support to every pupil.
The role
This full-time role involves working one-to-one with a year 1 pupil who has autism, is selectively mute, and displays significantly dysregulated behaviour. The ideal candidate will be patient, calm, and resilient, with a strong understanding of autism and a proactive approach to behaviour management.
Ideal candidate
• A Level 2 or 3 teaching assistant qualification (or equivalent)
• Proven experience working with children with ASD and complex needs
• Strong communication and de-escalation skills
• A nurturing and adaptable attitude
• The ability to build trust and rapport with children who may find communication and routine challenging
You’ll be joining a supportive and professional team who are deeply committed to making a difference. Staff wellbeing is prioritised, and the school promotes collaboration and continuous development through regular training and mentoring.
If you are passionate about inclusion and thrive in a role where every day presents a new opportunity to change a child’s life, we would love to hear from you.
