Role: Audit Assurance Officer
Department: Crime Services
Location: Maltby
Contract Type: Temporary for 12 months
Salary: £32,613 - £37,020
Hours: 37 per week

In this role you will support ongoing improvements to force performance and HMICFRS preparation through the delivery of quality assurance audits, completing in‑depth research and analysis of all current and future areas of Police activity relating to the protection of vulnerable people (PVP).
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out in‑depth research and analysis of internal SYP systems and associated documentation in high‑risk and sensitive areas of Policing.
* Produce, maintain and update an ongoing qualitative audit cycle to ensure periodic audits are conducted within appropriate timescales, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness and legitimacy.
* Determine internal audit scope and develop annual plans aligned with Force and PVP priorities.
* Complete performance audits to support HMICFRS and SYP delivery plans, identifying deficiencies, safeguarding and organisational risks, and highlighting good practice.
* Prepare and present high‑quality reports to senior management that reflect audit outcomes, recommendations and document processes. Attend and deliver findings to force organisational meeting forums including Force Performance Day and Quarterly Performance Review.
* Identify and highlight SYP policy and procedure that are inaccurate or no longer current. Engage with Force Thematic Leads to ensure amendments are completed.
* Assist senior management in project development processes, including the formulation of delivery plans, auditing processes and review mechanisms.
* Conduct environmental scans and network to ensure continuous knowledge development around Force policies, procedures, best practice, performance standards and updated relevant legislation and case law.
* Assist with implementation, tracking and auditing of learning identified within the Statutory Safeguarding Review Process.
Skills and Experience
* Experience of operating within a performance management environment, including audits and inspections.
* Previous administrative and computer experience, including the ability to update and interrogate various systems. Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
* Experience of undertaking analysis of investigations, procedures and protocols and preparing high‑quality reports.
* Experience of maintaining confidentiality and managing issues of a sensitive and confidential nature.
* Experience of risk management.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet the minimum requirement of a 5‑year checkable history and successfully undergo recruitment vetting procedure, a prerequisite for employment with South Yorkshire Police.
