Wicketz Development Officer (Westminster)

Department: Community Development

Reporting to: Community Programmes Manager

Contract: Permanent

DIMENSIONS OF ROLE

Five shifts of eight hours, rostered between 09:00 and 20:00hrs, Monday to Sunday (inclusive), with one hour&s unpaid lunch on each day worked; making a total of 35 working hours per week.

KEY PURPOSE OF ROLE

MCC in partnership with the Lord's Taverners wish to appoint a Development Officer to grow the Wicketz programme across the London Borough of Westminster.

This exciting role seeks an energetic and experienced individual who can deliver across a wide range of key priorities and objectives. The role combines programme development with cricket coaching focused on the personal development of participants. The role will be responsible for engaging young people and recruiting volunteers from areas of deprivation/hard to reach groups into becoming active members of local Community Wicketz Hubs.

This project which uses the Wicketz Cricket Programme as a means of engagement as 4 main outcomes;

* For young people to be more employable and independent
* For young people to become more healthy, more confident, and more included or connected
* For young people to complete an employability programme, gaining knowledge and confidence from tailored workshops supported and delivered by local businesses
* Develop a business community across Westminster that has; fewer barriers to employment for disadvantaged young people, and which has improved championing or workplaces that are inclusive and diverse

KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

* Create 3 community Wicketz hubs across Westminster using the programme model, building participation and competitive opportunities, whilst meeting the outcomes as specified in the project brief
* Successfully engage young people aged 11-19 years working to create an offer for these participants to help them identify valuable employability (volunteering or paid) pathways both inside and outside of sport
* Drive the engagement of Women & Girls as an identified group of young people to access and benefit from the project
* Positively engage with the local community to champion and develop partnerships with businesses, partner agencies, schools, parents and other sports groups to ensure community cohesion
* Support the establishment of an impact monitoring framework to measure and evaluate the programme
* Comply with the monitoring and evaluation requirements of the Lord&s Taverners for the Wicketz programme liaising with allocated Lord&s Taverners Progamme Manager when required
* Build case studies to highlight the positive impact of the programme using them to showcase the impact of the programme liaising with Lord&s Taverners
* Influence local business to reduce barriers to employment for young people from disadvantaged groups
* Collaborate with and signpost Wicketz participants, to other local opportunities to stay engaged to meet the wider outcomes of the project
* Develop extended partnerships with external partners and stakeholders to meet the outcomes of the project
* Use the power of cricket as a vehicle to seek to enhance young people&s futures prospects, supporting them make positive life choices
* Develop social and inter-personal skills of participants including leadership, communication and self-esteem
* Organise and deliver festivals and competitions to engage the wider community
* Work with the MCC team, collaborating to enhance and add value to the project
* To ensure the Wicketz legacy is left within the community beyond the cycle of the project by identifying and upskilling participants, volunteers and members of the community to continue engagement
* Ensure young people are always safeguarded providing a fun and enjoyable environment for all

VARIATIONS OF JOB RELATING TO MAJOR MATCHES

* Attendance at all major match-days, including weekends, as required.
* Any other duties, whether in the Department or elsewhere around the Ground, as required.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

* Responsible for the safety of yourself and others through adherence to MCC (and legal) safety rules and procedures.
* Report any unsafe practices, equipment or circumstances as appropriate.
* Comply fully with relevant security policies and procedures.
* Be familiar with fire procedures and evacuation procedures and be prepared to operate when/if trained as a Fire Warden

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS & SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Criteria

* An understanding and passion for the principles of sport for development
* Demonstrable experience of leading and managing similar projects with successful outcomes
* Experience in youth work/working with young people in programme engagement and delivery
* Experience of mentoring, supporting and encouraging volunteers and young people
* Experience of working with children with behavioural/additional needs
* An understanding of the challenges that young people facing disadvantage face and how these can be overcome by taking part in and through high quality project delivery
* Experience of creating pathways for young people in community settings
* Experience of integrating and embedding youth voice into programme delivery
* Experience of partnership working and successful collaboration with multiple stakeholders
* Understanding of the local landscape and community, in particular local authority
* Computer literate including using databases and data analysis

Desirable criteria

* An understanding and passion for the Wicketz Programme and its aims and objectives
* Cricket coaching experience within a club/community environment
* ECB Level 2 or equivalent accredited coach
* Experience in workshop delivery
* Holder of a current full driving licence with access to their own vehicle
* Existing First Aid & Safeguarding qualifications/a willingness to complete these
