Job Title: Health & Safety Officer
Location: RAC Offices, Yorkshire Agriculture Society Showground

Working Pattern: 5 days out of 7, 37.5 hours per week Monday - Sunday
Reporting to: Head of Events with a dotted line to the Society Manager
Purpose of the Role
The Yorkshire Agricultural Society (YAS) is a charity that exists to promote and support agriculture and allied industries across the North of England. The Society is best known for organising the Great Yorkshire Show in July, however it is a busy showground all year round. Reporting to the Head of Events and the Society Manager, the Health and Safety (H&S) Officer will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment across all the activities* of the Showground by developing and implementing policies, conducting risk assessments, and where necessary ensure appropriate training is in place.
*This is a hands-on role and activities of the Showground include shows, events, conferences, retail, catering and facility management.
Key Responsibilities
* Developing and Implementing Policies: Creating and updating health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring they are aligned with relevant legislation and best practices.
* Risk Assessment (including Fire Risk Assessments): Identifying potential hazards for both employees and visitors, assessing the associated risks, and recommending control measures to mitigate those risks.
* Incident Investigation: Investigating accidents and incidents to determine the root cause and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
* Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring the Society complies with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards.
* Inspections and Audits: Conducting regular site inspections and audits to identify safety deficiencies and ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
* Advising Management: Providing expert advice and guidance to management, employees and contractors on all aspects of health, safety, and welfare.
* Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of inspections, training, incidents, and other relevant information.
* Emergency Preparedness: Developing and implementing emergency response plans and where necessary conducting drills to prepare employees for various emergencies.
* Training and Education: Delivering training programs and toolbox talks to employees on safety procedures, emergency protocols, and the proper use of safety equipment.
* Reporting: provide Senior Management and Trustees with reports on the overall health and safety performance of the organization, including incidents, near misses, and hazards.

Experience & Qualifications
* NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
* In depth understanding of Health and Safety legislation and best practice.
* Previous experience in a compliance officer role,
* Experience of incident investigation and report writing.
* Experience of written Risk Assessments.
* Experience of inspection and audit
* Experience of working under pressure and to deadlines.
* Experience with H&S management software
