Offer description

Do you have the project management expertise to drive a clinical study that tackles one of the world’s most urgent health challenges?

Staphylococcus aureus is a leading cause of life-threatening infection worldwide, and with the rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the need for effective treatments and preventive strategies has never been more critical. As the Fleming Initiative Project Manager in Dr Dinesh Aggarwal’s group, you will step directly into this global fight, driving the delivery of a pioneering controlled human infection study that aims to close the gaps in our knowledge.

This position represents a unique opportunity to play a central role in ground-breaking work at the intersection of clinical microbiology, immunology, and global health. You will provide expert leadership for a complex trial involving the deliberate administration of S. aureus to healthy volunteers - work that is essential for understanding immune interaction and advancing vaccine development.

We are looking for a tenacious and academically driven individual with a genuine interest in advancing the science of infectious diseases. While experience in clinical trials is advantageous, we are equally keen to hear from those with a strong background in biomedical research or regulation who are ready to apply their skills to the operational challenges of experimental medicine. If you are highly organised, eager to develop your skillset in clinical management, and ready to contribute to real-world solutions, we want to hear from you.

You will be the operational heartbeat of this complex experimental medicine study, providing expert leadership to ensure the trial is delivered safely and ethically. Working with considerable autonomy, but in close collaboration with Dr Dinesh Aggarwal, you will:

1. Lead the lifecycle: Oversee the project from start to finish, including the complex logistics of manufacturing the aureus challenge agent, planning study visits, and managing timelines to ensure the study stays on track.
2. Navigate governance: Manage the essential regulatory and ethical landscape. You will prepare and submit applications to Research Ethics Committees and R&D departments, ensuring the study maintains the highest standards of safety and governance.
3. Connect the team: Act as the central link between the laboratory, the clinical facility, and external partners. You will coordinate a multidisciplinary team of research nurses, fellows, and researchers to guarantee the smooth operational delivery of the study.
4. Drive the science: Beyond administration, you will oversee data collection and management systems, contributing to analysis and the writing of scientific papers, while supporting the Fleming Initiative’s public engagement mission.

We are looking for a highly motivated and academically driven individual with a genuine interest in advancing the science of infectious diseases. You will be a proactive problem-solver who thrives in complex regulatory environments. To succeed in this role, you will need:

5. Project Management Expertise: Extensive experience managing complex projects within a clinical, academic, or biomedical research setting. You must be able to demonstrate rigorous organisational skills and the ability to drive timelines from planning to completion.
6. Regulatory & Governance Skills: A strong working knowledge of research governance. We are looking for candidates with experience in navigating ethical approvals, regulatory submissions, or quality management systems (., GCP, HTA, or GMP) and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of compliance.
7. Data & Technical Proficiency: Experience with data management processes and systems. A background in handling complex scientific data, trial monitoring, or electronic Case Report Forms (eCRFs) would be advantageous.
8. Communication & Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate with external sponsors, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and communicate the societal impact of our research to the public.

9. The chance to contribute to the Fleming Initiative, a transformative partnership between Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust dedicated to tackling AMR.
10. The opportunity to work alongside, and be supported by, internationally recognised experts in Infectious Diseases. You will be embedded within Dr Dinesh Aggarwal’s and Prof Chris Chiu’s multi-disciplinary teams, gaining exposure to world-leading clinical and laboratory research.
11. A commitment to your professional development, with access to training and resources to support your career in clinical trial management.
12. Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 41 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
13. Be part of a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work culture with various and resources designed to support your personal and professional .
