Job Description
This role is for a design engineer to work on the Heathrow Airport Information and Control Systems (ICS) Projects. The role will be based at Heathrow Airport 3-5 days a week as the projects dictates. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and implementation of structured cabling systems within various construction projects. This role requires a strong understanding of construction methodologies, CDM regulations, and the ability to effectively sequence works. The candidate will be responsible for the design of network solutions involving networking vendor products, cable infrastructure, cabinet designs and AutoCAD drawings. Detailed knowledge of cabling and physical infrastructure standards is required to ensure adherence of all Fujitsu's designs. The project is involved in large-scale construction work at the airport and adherence to relevant Health and Safety requirements is paramount.

By leveraging innovative technologies, you will help airports reduce their environmental impact while ensuring seamless connectivity and reliable communication.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Design of solutions involving network products (e.g. Cisco, Nokia, OTN), Cabling Infrastructure Design and Implementation. Develop and implement structured cabling systems, including:
1. Fiber optic cabling (single-mode and multi-mode).
2. Copper cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a).
3. Patch panels, cable management trays, racks, and cabinets.
Ensure all designs comply with international standards such as TIA-568, ISO/IEC 11801, and BS EN 50173. and architectural drawings.
Core Activities:
4. Structured Cabling Designer; prepare detailed design specifications, drawings, and documentation in accordance with industry best practices and client requirements, design and implementation of structured cabling systems within various construction projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards:
5. Design and develop detailed structured cabling system designs for new build and refurbishment projects, voice, data, low-voltage applications, fiber and CAT cabling (e.g., CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, CAT7, CAT8).
6. Develop cable schedules, bill of materials, and cost estimates.
7. Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of the cabling infrastructure.
8. Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks associated with the cabling infrastructure.
9. Prepare detailed design specifications, drawings, and documentation in accordance with industry best practices and client requirements.
10. Conduct site surveys to assess existing infrastructure and identify cabling requirements.
11. Extract and analyses airport survey and existing design data and recommend improvements/corrections.
12. Develop cable schedules, bill of materials, and cost estimates.
13. Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.
14. Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of the cabling infrastructure.
15. Ensure design compliance with all relevant regulations, including CDM 2015, Building Regulations, and industry standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 1180, TIA/EIA, BICSI, and IEEE. ).
16. Liaise with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve design and installation issues.
17. Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.
18. Aware of Health and Safety requirements for designs e.g. CDM and fully complies with requirements for working on construction sites. Your transferable skills and experience:
19. Understand and adhere to health and safety regulations on construction sites.
20. Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies.
21. Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks associated with the cabling infrastructure.
22. Experience with sequencing works to ensure efficient installation and minimize disruption.
23. Ensure adherence to Fujitsu policies and working practices to support internal/external audits
24. Airside pass will need to be obtained, involving Criminal Records Check and employment references
Experience
25. Minimum 5 years of experience in structured cabling design within a construction environment.
26. Proven experience in designing and implementing fiber optic and copper cabling systems.
27. Thorough understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and their application within construction projects.
28. Excellent knowledge of relevant industry standards and best practices.
29. Proficiency in AutoCAD, and other relevant design software (e.g., Revit, BIM software).
30. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
31. Has a clear knowledge and experience of, and can demonstrate and manage, the design lifecycle from initial analysis through to final testing and customer handover.
