A Deli Assistant is responsible for assisting customers with their deli-related needs, maintaining a clean and organized deli counter, preparing, slicing, and packaging deli meats, cheeses, and other food items. This position plays a key role in ensuring that customers receive fresh, high-quality products while providing excellent customer service. Deli Assistants also help with maintaining food safety and hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Customer Service:
* Provide knowledgeable recommendations and advice on deli products
* Respond to customer requests, take special orders, and prepare customized cuts of meats or cheeses.
* Ensure a positive customer experience by providing fast, friendly, and efficient service.
* Handle customer inquiries or complaints promptly and professionally.
* Food Preparation & Handling:
* Slice, prepare, and package deli meats, cheeses, and other products according to customer specifications.
* Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked deli counter and display cases.
* Ensure all products are properly labelled with prices, ingredients, allergens and any necessary handling or storage instructions.
* Ensure food is cooked to standard following all cooking instructions
* Ensure all hot food items are temperature checked after cooking and whilst in the hot cabinet.
* Assist with the preparation of ready-to-eat deli salads, sandwiches, and other food items.
* Monitor product freshness and quality, ensuring that any items nearing expiration are removed from display and replaced as necessary.
* Food Safety & Hygiene:
* Follow all health and safety regulations, including maintaining cleanliness and proper hygiene at the deli counter.
* Adhere to all food safety practices, including hand washing, proper storage, and handling of food items.
* Regularly sanitize workstations, equipment, and utensils to prevent cross-contamination and ensure food safety.
* Other Duties:
* Assist with store opening and closing duties, including cleaning, restocking, and organizing the deli area.
* Perform any other duties as required by the Deli Manager or Store Manager.
