Develop and deliver main plant engineering solutions for transmission networks (132kV and above), providing necessary basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs, innovation, effective technical support, advice, and input throughout the lifecycle of projects.
Define technical and economic criteria to ensure established quality and safety standards are achieved, whilst maximising profitability, and provide engineering consultancy to other parts of the business as required.
What you’ll be doing
* Define main plant and ancillary apparatus requirements for input to System Construction Authorization (SCA), project technical specifications, and BETTA documentation. Advise on construction and outage programs related to the main plant.
* Responsible for basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for networks and all aspects of the main plant system.
* Provide engineering specialization in the field of switchgear, transformers, and all other associated substation equipment.
* Responsible for technical assessment of tender submissions, preparation/review of main plant design drawings and specifications.
* Ensure the main plant and equipment proposed for the substation comply with current legislation, policies, and operational requirements.
* Provide technical support to the project team on design, construction, and operation of all switchgear, transformers, and associated substation apparatus. Lead the technical resolution of site/construction switchgear and transformer issues.
* Responsible for engineering documentation following quality processes to meet deliverables for PQPs and BETTA.
* Perform all duties emphasizing health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance, and continuous improvement. Collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
* Maintain awareness of technological advances and industry best practices. Evaluate and apply new ideas, technical developments, equipment, and working methods to achieve cost savings, efficiencies, and safety improvements, reflected in policy and standard reviews.
* Assess engineering documentation, feasibility, and compliance with business requirements. Support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects.
What you’ll bring
* Degree in an engineering discipline with relevant experience.
* Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across departments and businesses.
* Ability to implement and promote CDM and health & safety best practices in a design environment.
* Ability to investigate and understand technical characteristics of substation plant and associated equipment.
* Understanding of plant and equipment used in transmission networks, including operation and maintenance.
* Experience in implementing new technologies and engineering solutions to reduce project costs.
* Proven experience in a responsible position, with knowledge in areas such as switchgear, transformers, and substation auxiliary equipment at voltages from 33kV to 400kV.
