The Electrical and Mechanical Engineer will ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.
What you’ll be doing as an Electrical & Mechanical Engineer
Working within the maintenance team, you will follow robust planned maintenance, get involved in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates all year round.
1. The successful candidate will work in a small, multi-discipline team and will be responsible for carrying out scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimize plant breakdowns.
2. You will investigate plant failures and carry out repairs quickly and efficiently to avoid process interruptions. This may involve diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
3. You will be expected to provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees if required.
4. Examples of equipment include motors, gearboxes, screw/chain conveyors, centrifuges, various pumps, associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level, and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives, and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
5. Participate in a standby rota following relevant training.
What should you bring to the role?
* You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity. Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
* Ideally, you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying, or repairing mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
* For individuals with mechanical or electrical experience only, we will look to develop the right people to dual-skilled status.
* Experience working on large industrial plant equipment, including various pumps within the utility industry, would be beneficial.
* Due to the role's nature, domestic experience is not suitable.
* Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
* The work will require physical fitness as you will work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
* Participation in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby rota will be required after training and assessment.
* A valid driving license is essential, and all necessary equipment, such as vehicles and tools, are provided.
What’s in it for you?
* Competitive salary up to £39,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
* Standby and overtime opportunities can increase earnings by £8,000-£10,000 per year after training.
* Annual leave of 24 days, increasing to 28 with service, plus bank holidays.
* Contributory pension – Defined Contribution, up to 12% (employee contribution doubled).
* Annual personal medical assessments.
* Access to our benefits hub with various offers and wellbeing support.
