Overview
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust SLT team is recruiting a Speech and Language Therapy assistant to join the growing stroke rehabilitation service. The role is based at Rowley Regis Hospital with inpatient stroke rehabilitation within Rowley Regis Hospital and acute stroke care at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. The post focuses on delivering high quality communication and swallowing rehabilitation to patients during inpatient recovery from stroke. We are seeking an individual passionate about rehabilitation who will work directly with patients with communication and swallowing difficulties resulting from stroke. The successful candidate will use highly developed interpersonal skills to establish strong relationships with patients and the MDT.
Our trust has a fully funded integrated community stroke service, allowing us to follow patients from acute to long‑term community intervention. The focus of this position is inpatient rehabilitation at Rowley Regis Hospital, with opportunities to learn across the pathway and occasional travel to support patients at Midlands Metropolitan Hospital as needed.
Responsibilities
* Deliver high quality communication and swallowing rehabilitation to patients during inpatient recovery from stroke.
* Work directly with patients with communication and swallowing difficulties, building strong relationships with patients, families and MDT colleagues.
* Participate in weekend inpatient service provision at Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital and engage in future models of 7‑day working as required.
* Engage in rotational roles and blended working across acute and community services to strengthen professional relationships.
* Participate in regular departmental meetings, clinical supervision, education meetings, and continuing professional development.
* Support student training and contribute to expanded education opportunities within the department.
* Utilise available administrative and IT resources and access library facilities to support learning and service delivery.

Additional Information
There are regular departmental meetings, clinical supervision sessions and weekly development sessions, with monthly evidence‑based practice reviews. The department supports student training across placements and aims to expand its education offering. There are excellent administrative supports and access to modern trust facilities. The trust is located near major road and rail networks with easy access to Birmingham and local leisure facilities.
