Eton s Boarding Houses are integral to the students' lives, providing a community space that offers wrap-around care to support their academic and personal development. As a Housekeeper, you will be responsible, under the supervision of the Cleaning Supervisor, for maintaining cleanliness within designated areas of the school. These areas primarily include the Boarding Houses, pupils' rooms, communal areas, staff offices, and living spaces across multiple floors, accessible via stairs. Occasionally, you may assist in other areas, such as setting up examination rooms and working as part of a team. You will also be involved in tasks at the Central Cleaning stores, preparing cleaning materials for distribution.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Cleaning and maintaining hygiene in designated areas, including toilets, bathrooms, shower areas, and communal spaces, by sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, and emptying litter bins. Furniture may need to be moved for effective cleaning.
2. Supervising pupils' laundry, sending clothing and bedding to the laundry service weekly, checking returned items, reporting missing items, and ensuring name tapes are sewn on all clothing.
3. Using appropriate powered equipment for cleaning floors and carpets, such as vacuum cleaners, shampooers, and polishers. Training can be provided; specialist cleaning knowledge is preferred.
4. Assisting during school events and social functions to meet the needs of the House.
5. Building positive relationships with pupils and encouraging tidiness and good habits, such as hanging up suits, turning off electronics, and making beds.
6. Ensuring adherence to safeguarding policies and reporting concerns to the Dame, in line with the College's child protection procedures.
7. Following all safety, security, and fire regulations, including COSHH regulations for hazardous substances.
8. Performing additional duties as reasonably requested by the Cleaning Supervisor or Managers, which may vary between term time and holidays.
9. Attending meetings and training sessions as required.
