Sister/Charge Nurse Breast Surgery - Band 6 This is an exciting time at St Bartholomew's Hospital as we look forward to opening our dedicated Breast Cancer centre, bringing all services, including vital reconstructive surgery, together, improving patient care and experience. We are now recruiting for Band 6 nurses with significant experience in breast surgery and/or other cancer or acute experience to join our cancer surgical inpatient and day case wards. We welcome applications from those with recent Band 6 experience looking for a fresh challenge or Band 5 nurses with relevant clinical experience. We offer a wide range of development opportunities including, Band 6 leadership opportunities, access to inhouse and external training and support from the practice education team.
Main duties of the job
Works as part of a team of registered nurses, nursing associates, health care support workers in delivering safe effective care to patients within the clinical area. To work closely with the Ward/Departmental Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure that clinical standards of care are achieved within the unit and to participate in the audit of clinical care. Co-ordinates the activities of the clinical area when required, including deputising.

Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse.
2. Post registration qualification in relevant area i.e. Cancer/Breast Care
3. Practice Assessor / supervisor qualification / teaching qualification
4. IV therapy competency
Experience
Essential criteria
5. Experience working as Band 5 or Band 6 in an acute cancer or surgical ward setting.

7. Taking charge of clinical area
8. Experience supervising others
Knowledge
Essential criteria
9. Knowledge and understanding of cancer patient clinical issues, including common emergencies and their management
10. Understanding and knowledge of Cancer/Oncology/Breast Surgery

13. Understanding of the NHS Plan and current NHS issues
