This is a great opportunity to work as part of the Care of the Elderly service, which sits within the Division of Specialty Medicine. You will join a team of 5 existing Elderly Medicine Consultants, with a diverse range of sub-specialty areas including post-acute care, delirium, ortho-geriatrics, movement disorders, falls and community geriatrics. Main duties of the job • Strengthening the delivery of a high quality geriatric service across the hospital; • Participation in rehabilitation wards rounds and MDTs; • Development of rapid assessment clinics; • Forging links between emergency medicine to support admission avoidance schemes for older people; • Liaising and developing working policies with relevant hospital departments, local General Practitioners, nurses and paramedical staff; • Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high quality care and emphasis on links between emergency medicine and Care of the Elderly acute wards where appropriate; • Developing the use of nurse practitioners and paramedical staff in the hospital; • Developing a subspecialty interest. Qualification Essential • MBchB/MBBS or equivalent • MRCP • Completed at least four years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or equivalent experience and competencies • Must have or be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council at time of appointment and continue to hold a License to Practise. Experience and Achievements Essential • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Geriatric Medicine • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the role • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need Desirable • Understanding current issues within Geriatric and the future direction of the specialty • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS Teaching and Training Essential • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
