Overhaul Technician
Contract Role: 18 Months
Location: Manchester Train Care Centre, Longsight, M12 4HR
Shift Pattern: 2 weeks of days, followed by 2 weeks of nights - on rotation.
Hours: 44hrs per week
Start and Finish times: ( Subject to change at client's request )
Days: 07:00 - 18:00
Nights: 19:00 - 06:00

Pay:
Pre 12 weeks: PAYE £30.72 per hour / Umbrella £35.18 per hour
Post 12 weeks: PAYE £33.97 per hour / Umbrella £39.96 per hour
Post 12 weeks (after tech competency achieved): PAYE £36.41 per hour / Umbrella £42.85 per hour
Additional Retainer: £1.00 per hour (paid upon project completion and return of tooling in satisfactory condition)
This role falls inside IR35 - payment via PAYE or Umbrella Company.
Overview
Join a team of 80+ skilled professionals at Manchester Train Care Centre, working on a major overhaul project for the Class 390 Avanti High Speed Trains. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and reliability of one of the UK's most iconic high-speed fleets, while developing your skills with a world-leading rail organisation.

Purpose of the Role
As part of the overhaul team, you will:
Service, maintain, repair, and overhaul rolling stock and equipment (including advanced train technologies) in line with Vehicle Maintenance Instructions (VMI).
Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, while seeking opportunities to improve processes and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support to the Overhaul team in the provision of fault-finding expertise and assistance with train repair and train maintenance and test (Where assessed)
Partake in gathering required data downloads on critical performance systems.
Undertake static testing and dynamic test runs post Overhaul
Positioning of fault data into shared drive facility.
Carry out fault finding and investigate faults.
Component exchange
Carry out Testing & Re-Commissioning activities on vehicles and trains in accordance with pre-written test and commissioning procedures.
Functionally test train borne systems with minimal supervision using a variety of techniques and methods, including the use of computer-based diagnostics systems.
Assist with the validation of documentation issued in support of maintenance and repair activities, special checks, modifications and experiments.
Carry out all duties in accordance with the Traincare Centre quality and safety procedures.
General depot duties e.g.: Line of Routes
Alista, SAP and SES input (Any future business IT systems)
Mentoring others as and when required
Understand and abide by safety notices, rules & regulations and follow safe working practices, H&SAWA and COSHH
Work in conjunction with our clients lifesaving rules
Comply with and enforce our clients Health and Safety Policy
Qualifications & Skills
HNC or above in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
Practical technical experience and sound knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering aspects of EMU's and other transportation
Solid technical and IT skills with PC and office packages
Experience (one of the following desirable):
Rolling stock (locomotives or rail vehicles) preferred
Military (REME or other Military Engineering)
Aerospace
Automotive vehicles such as HGV's, Buses, Lorries, Electric Vehicles, Automobiles
Requirements
Live within commuting distance of Manchester city centre
Right to work in the UK and able to provide proof of qualifications
