Law Clerk to the Sheriff Appeal Court
Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service – Edinburgh, Hybrid (Full‑time, Contract: 2 years, renewable).
Salary: £56,875 plus benefits.
About the role
The Law Clerk to the Sheriff Appeal Court is a legally qualified position. This role involves working with the Law Clerks to the Lord President, the Lord Justice Clerk and the Inner House, primarily assisting the Sheriffs Principal in the performance of their judicial functions. Responsibilities include preparing appeals, noting arguments presented in court and drafting text suitable for possible inclusion in the Opinions of the Sheriff Appeal Court.
The post‑holder will also carry out legal research and prepare briefings, documents and other papers as directed by the Sheriffs Principal, supporting their non‑judicial functions. The role works closely with judicial office holders and officials across SCTS, including the Lord President’s Private Office and senior staff at SCTS.
