Overview

The post holder will play an important role in this dynamic team. The successful candidate will be hardworking, motivated, and a flexible team player, able to respond rapidly and work under the direction of senior nurses. The role requires flexibility to meet the demands of the service and effective collaboration with partnership departments and Surgeons across a 7 day working week, 24 hours a day. Surgical experience is not essential as training will be given.


Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical responsibilities
* Assist in the provision of patient care in accordance with the care plan prescribed by registered nurses, including hygiene, nutrition and hydration, continence care, pressure area care, mobility, rehabilitation, and psychological support.
* Assist in taking patient observations appropriate to the level of training and competence and document in line with trust and local policies.
* Assist healthcare professionals with treatment and undertake additional care roles under supervision as determined by competence.
* Report changes in the patient’s condition to registered nurses.
* Assist in care and support of visitors.
* Maintain confidentiality in relation to patient records in line with Caldicott guidelines.
1. Non-clinical responsibilities
* Perform general clerical activities to support the area (e.g., answering the telephone, passing on messages, filing, and maintaining tidy patient records).
2. Other duties
* The post holder may be required to carry out other reasonable requests and duties as required, consistent with the responsibilities of their banding and development as agreed with management.


Professional Standards

NB: Postholder should undertake duties only for which training has been received and where competency-based assessment has been completed. Postholder must inform nurses and others of any limitations to competence.


Size and Team Context

Ward 11 is a ward dedicated to patients undergoing complex surgery, including general, colorectal, breast, and ENT procedures. It is a well-run and organized ward. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 CSW to join the ward to support registered nursing staff and other health care professionals in delivering nursing care to patients at a level determined by training, competence, and experience. They will also assist in maintaining the care environment and perform housekeeping, clerical, ancillary and portering roles as requested.

Smoking: The organisation operates a No Smoking policy.

Policies and Procedures: Employees should work within organisational policies and contribute to service improvements in an open, no-blame culture.
