Position:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Orthoptist based at University Hospital Ayr.
What you will do:
You will have highly developed specialised knowledge of orthoptic clinical practice including advanced knowledge and skills to lead the Orthoptic Stroke Service throughout NHS Ayrshire & Arran. In addition you will be the Practice Education lead for Orthoptics in NHS Ayrshire & Arran. You will be involved in the autonomous assessment of complex adult and paediatric orthoptic cases within the acute hospitals settings, community based paediatric orthoptic clinics and pre-school visual screening at various sites across Ayrshire, in addition to participating in shared care refraction clinics with the hospital optometrists. The Orthoptic department within NHS Ayrshire & Arran is also responsible for triaging paediatric referrals to the eye clinic. The department is committed to audit and research and actively encourages continued professional development. You will possess knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Word & Excel. We are a recognised Practice education site for undergraduate orthoptic students from Glasgow Caledonian University, Sheffield and Liverpool universities. You will be the Lead Orthoptist for all aspects of Practice Education within Orthoptics and therefore you will be highly experienced as a practice educator and will be involved in all aspects of the delivery of undergraduate orthoptic education, in addition to the Orthoptic education of other disciplines.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:
A BSc hons degree in Orthoptics, evidence of working to Masters level, completion of a recognised post graduate course in exemptions to medicine, HCPC registration and current UK driving licence are essential. Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is a condition of this post and the successful applicant will be required to join the scheme prior to appointment.
