Job Description:
A bit about the role …
We’re looking for a proactive and people-focused Recycling Assistant to support the roll-out of new recycling and food waste services across flats and communal properties in West Northamptonshire. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be out in the community, visiting sites, assessing bin stores and working with residents to raise awareness and encourage participation in our recycling schemes.
As part of the Waste Services team, you’ll liaise with landlords, contractors and residents’ groups to help deliver a smooth introduction of the service. You’ll also help monitor usage, respond to any concerns, and contribute towards our wider environmental goals by helping more households recycle effectively.
Who are we?
At West Northamptonshire Council, we’re committed to making our area a great place to live, work, visit and thrive. Our Waste Services team plays a vital part in achieving this by delivering essential services to all residents. We’re proud to foster a supportive, inclusive, and forward-thinking workplace where colleagues are empowered to innovate, improve and grow.
Requirements
A bit about you …
You’re either a recent graduate or looking to pivot into a suitable entry-level role where you can make a real impact. Confident and approachable, you enjoy working both independently and as part of a team. You're organised, manage your time well, and are comfortable travelling across the borough to visit different sites.
You’re a strong communicator who enjoys engaging with people face-to-face — explaining the importance of recycling in a clear, friendly, and professional way. You’ve got a good eye for detail, can make practical recommendations, and keep accurate records. As a representative of the Council, you bring a positive attitude to every interaction. A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
