This role involves working with children in an immersive Irish language environment. The post holder will be responsible for the management, development, and delivery of Early Years services in various settings, including the SureStart Developmental Programme for 2 to 3-year-olds and possibly a crèche. The aim is to ensure a safe, caring, and welcoming environment for children and their families.
Responsibilities
1. Deliver and manage Early Years services through Irish, including the Developmental Programme for 2 to 3-year-olds and/or crèche, ensuring a safe, secure, and healthy environment.
2. Provide care that meets individual needs and ensures children’s safety and well-being.
3. Plan and manage daily routines tailored to children’s needs, incorporating play and learning opportunities.
4. Promote and support the use of Irish in all interactions with children, staff, and parents.
5. Manage a staff team, fostering a positive team environment and encouraging teamwork.
6. Supervise staff, organize and chair team meetings regularly, and participate in appraisals.
7. Support and supervise students and volunteers in designated settings.
8. Ensure adherence to policies and procedures of Shantallow Community Support, Partnership, and Resource Centre Derry.
9. Maintain accurate records, including attendance, accident reports, daily plans, observations, and risk assessments.
10. Provide reports for social services, evaluations, and transitions to relevant agencies and the Board.
11. Manage partnerships with parents/carers, ensuring a welcoming environment that supports their role and understanding, including those with additional needs.
12. Support staff in preparing children’s records and reviews for parents.
13. Assist in allocating places and managing waiting lists for Early Years services.
14. Plan and deliver parental involvement activities.
15. Conduct home visits as required.
16. Liaise with professionals within and outside the SureStart team, including statutory, voluntary, and community sectors.
17. Maintain confidentiality regarding all information about children and parents.
18. Participate in relevant training, including safeguarding, first aid, food safety, and the Developmental Programme.
19. Work within the line management system to address service provision and practice concerns.
20. Assist with transportation of children as needed.
21. Perform any other duties within the scope of the position.
Skills and Qualifications
1. QCF Level 5 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning, and Development, or equivalent, or NVQ Level 3 with ongoing or willingness to undertake a Level 5 Diploma.
2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children in a play, education, or daycare setting.
3. Ability to speak and understand Irish.
4. Valid driving license or access to suitable transport.
5. At least 1 year of supervisory experience working with children.
6. Experience working in an Irish medium Early Years setting.
7. Valid First Aid, Food Hygiene, and Safeguarding/Child Protection certificates.
8. Training in the SureStart Developmental Programme for 2-3-year-olds.
