Lead Engineer – Cockpit
Lead Engineer is responsible for leading subsystem engineers and delivering all aspects of defined component(s) and system(s).
Area of Responsibility
* Progress cost‑reduction proposals from ideation to release through the Initiative Management System (IMS).
* Evaluate proposals for initial feasibility.
* Ensure that the engineering subsystem delivers technical and business objectives.
* Create and validate timelines for each accepted cost‑saving proposal with stakeholders.
* Progress proposals through gateway readiness stages.
* Communicate with all business areas to present the proposal case to relevant stakeholders.
* Conduct prototype evaluations in an engineering environment.
* Conduct line‑trial evaluations in a production environment.
* Liaise effectively with Design, Styling, Purchasing, Suppliers, Manufacturing, Quality, Core Engineering, and Finance to drive proposals to implementation.
* Prepare and update FMEA and DVP where required with CORE team.
* Follow up actions with owners to ensure progress.
* Publish minutes from each meeting.
* Ensure delivery of technical and business objectives.
* Ensure programme timing objectives are met.
* Communicate team progress to management (escalations).
* Identify and manage risks and opportunities for each proposal.
* Ensure that all issues are addressed and closed.
Knowledge & Experience
* Excellent people and communication skills with the ability to engage and convince at all levels – face‑to‑face as well as email/phone/Teams.
* Ability to run multiple proposals in parallel and keep them on track.
* Proven project‑management capability with on‑time and on‑budget delivery in a product‑development environment.
* Engineering knowledge of multiple interior components or systems design, function, performance, production, and manufacturing requirements.
* Computer literacy, including Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
* Significant experience using engineering tools such as FMEA, structured problem resolution, and issues‑management systems.
* Successful delivery experience within the automotive product‑development sector.
* Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
* Resilient, proactive character with the ability to remain positive and committed to the role.
Preferred
* Ability to interrogate CAD data (3DX) and use visualization tools.
