We encourage applications from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community for all positions, including this role.</p><h3>What is the job role?</h3><p>The Attendance and Children Missing Education Officer is a fixed‑term (18 months) role supporting the local authority in fulfilling its statutory duties for school attendance. The officer will ensure that legal processes are followed for court and enforcement proceedings and will hold a responsibility for delivering the Department for Education statutory duty around school attendance.</p><h3>Key Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Deliver statutory duties in school attendance, including pupil attendance enforcement, 6th day provision for excluded pupils, administration of the Fair Access and Supported Transfer process, and child licensing.</li><li>Develop and implement interventions with children, young people and parents/carers to improve attendance.</li><li>Advise, evaluate and challenge schools on the effectiveness of their attendance procedures.</li><li>Prepare and file court documents for presentation in the Magistrates Court for cases of non‑attendance.</li><li>Ensure vulnerable children are appropriately supported and their voices are heard.</li></ul><h3>Qualifications and Experience</h3><ul><li>Experience advising schools, parents, stakeholders and partners on matters that affect children’s and young people’s access to education.</li><li>Knowledge of the legal framework related to school attendance and the Education and Children Missing Education legislation.</li><li>Understanding of issues that cause poor school attendance and intervention programmes to remove learning barriers.</li><li>Familiarity with safeguarding procedures.</li><li>Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage statutory duties and court processes.</li></ul><p>All candidates must have the right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not available for this role.
