Please note on 1st March 2026, the Estates and Facilities Services for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will transfer to East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and become part of OneLSC.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust will be the Lead Provider of the service and the employer of colleagues working within the service, across sites.

If you are successful in your application, and commence work prior to 1st March 2026, your employment will transfer to East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust on 1st March 2026 under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations, 2006. There will be no impact for your job role, terms and conditions of employment or location of work.

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our friendly Accommodation Team at Royal Preston Hospital. You will play a key role in enhancing the experience of our residents and guests, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment that makes their stay happy and memorable.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with key collection, flat and room inspections, and vacation checks

Carry out curtain changes, general cleaning, laundry duties

Provide ad hoc administrative support

Liaise with Estates services and external contractors to report faults and ensure timely resolution via the FM First system

Main duties of the job


To support the Accommodation Team in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for hospital residents. The postholder will undertake a range of duties including key collection, flat and room inspections, vacation checks, curtain changes, general cleaning, laundry duties and ad hoc administrative support. They will liaise with Estates services and external contractors, to report faults and ensure timely resolution via the FM First system. The role requires excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach and response to resident queries.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main duties are shown below, each duty as an example of the tasks associated with that duty. We are looking for a self motivated person who can work both on their own and as part of a team. You will need to have good communication skills and be well organised, completing tasks in a timely manner.

Accommodation Checks & Inspections

* Conduct regular flat inspections to ensure cleanliness and maintenance standards are met, liaising with domestic services, the estates team and the residents if improvements or repairs are required.
* Carry out vacate inspections when residents move out of a property to ensure that the property has been left in the condition it was in when the individual/family moved in. Liaise with the Accommodation manager if the property has not been left in a satisfactory condition and a percentage of the deposit needs to be withheld.
* Following a vacate remove any personal items or waste left by the previous tenant. Strip the beds and remove the curtains prior to requesting a vacate clean from domestic services.
* Identify and report any faults, damages, or risks within accommodation areas.

Cleaning Duties

* Perform general cleaning tasks in line with service demand and infection control standards.
* Change curtains as required, ensuring safe handling and replacement procedures.
* Use the on site laundry facilities to clean those items that are not suitable to send to the Trust's contracted laundry provider.
* Provide assistance to the accommodation domestic team if required to get rooms ready for occupancy, this could include making beds.

Administrative Support

* Carry out ad hoc administrative duties including record keeping, filing, and responding to resident queries.
* Maintain accurate logs of inspections, cleaning schedules, and reported issues.
* Empty key return boxes on a daily basis and return all keys to the accommodation office.

Reporting & Liaison

* Report maintenance issues using the FM First system.
* Liaise with Estates teams and external contractors to ensure timely resolution of faults.
* Communicate effectively with residents, providing updates and support regarding accommodation concerns.

Resident Interaction

* Respond to resident queries in a professional and empathetic manner.
* Ensure residents feel supported and informed about accommodation services.

Qualifications & Education


Essential criteria

* Good general level of education to GCSE standard.
* Basic health and safety qualification.


Desirable criteria

* IOSHH Managing Safely qualification.
* NVQ 3 in Cleaning Building and Interiors.
* Cleaning qualification – NVQ


Knowledge & Experience


Essential criteria

* Computer literate.
* Knowledge of Information Governance and Data Protection.
* Experience in dealing with the public / customer care.


Desirable criteria

* Experience within a healthcare setting.
* Experience in audit compliance processes.
