About the Role
Transmission and Distribution Apprentice – Glasgow office (starting 26 August). This is a permanent role.
Responsibilities
* Primarily work on transmission assets in the UK; the team also works on projects across Europe.
* Occasional site visits to construction sites for substations, cables and overhead lines.
* Attend university at least one day per week for 4 years to pursue a BEng (Hons) engineering: Design & Manufacture course focused on Electrical Engineering.
* Support live projects and business development proposals under the guidance of senior team members, including activities such as:
o Power system studies & analysis – conceptual design, load and demand forecasting, system stability analysis, and power network studies.
o Substation and network design – site selection and detailed design, switchyard layout, grounding/earthing systems and lightning protection.
o Transmission & distribution system design – overhead lines, underground cable systems and interconnectors.
o Equipment selection & integration – transformer and switchgear selection, installation and overall system integration.
Qualifications
* Enrolled in a BEng (Hons) engineering: Design & Manufacture course (University of Strathclyde or Glasgow Caledonia University), SCQF Level 10.
* Minimum of 5 National 5’s at grade C or above, including Maths & English.
* Minimum of four SQA Highers at grade BBBB, including Maths, by the end of S6.
* Foundation apprenticeship or other vocational qualifications or experiential learning considered.
* Interest in HV & Power related work.
* Hardworking, enthusiastic, creative, practical and adaptable.
* Self‑motivated, organised and possessing good numerical skills.
* Proficient in English with excellent verbal and written communication.
* IT skills including Microsoft Office.
* Ability to work in a team and independently, maintaining initiative and focus.
Desirable
* Full driving licence or willingness to learn and travel occasionally.
