The Role

We are seeking to appoint a passionate, talented and rigorous practitioner to join our dedicated English department from June or September 2026. The successful candidate will have the exciting and unique opportunity to work with a KS3, KS4 and KS5 curriculum that is bespoke, challenging and fit for the needs of 21st Century life.

We are looking for an inspirational teacher with a proven track record of leading students to achieve outstanding results, who embraces creativity, innovation and is always looking for the very best practice in teaching. They will share the School's vision and the belief that all young people can achieve at high levels. All students will take English Literature and English Language at GCSE and all students in years 7-11 have five hours of English a week. We currently offer both English Literature, and Combined English Literature and Language A-levels.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (IN ADDITION TO THE TEACHERS’ STANDARDS)

Teaching and Learning

9. To teach English at any level within the School (within the age range 11-18)
10. To design the curriculum to ensure it is exciting, relevant, challenging and personalised
11. To ensure that all students are making good or outstanding progress and that teaching and learning is of a high standard
12. To contribute to CPD across the School and share best practice via coaching, sharing planning and resources and following an 'open door' teaching policy
13. To ensure English and literacy have a high profile across the School through offering vibrant and exciting learning opportunities
14. To ensure that resources are organised and available to promote a purposeful environment for teaching and learning to take place, through a mix of traditional teaching techniques, integrating ICT where appropriate and via project based learning
15. To ensure that classrooms within the faculty present a stimulating environment through the display of students’ work and other exemplar materials
16. To extend the curriculum via relevant trips, organising exciting visits from relevant speakers and visitors and leading enrichment programmes
17. To promote high participation levels of English outside of the curriculum and to contribute to the extra-curricular enrichment activities of the School, running at least one additional activity per week
18. To lead aspects of project led learning as required which link to the world of work, further and higher education, primary school liaison or the local community
19. To lead intervention programmes during the School holidays, before / after School or during weekends as required
20. To deploy other adults effectively within the classroom, involving them, where appropriate, in the planning and management of student learning

Progress and Attainment

21. To ensure assessment, feedback and monitoring is SMART, accurate and clearly moves students’ learning on across all teachers within the faculty
22. To standardise marking with colleagues both within the School and with partner schools
23. To rigorously analyse student data to inform planning and intervention programmes
24. To lead and attend internal and external meetings as required
25. To feedback to students and parents / carers in line with the School policy

Behaviour and Safety

26. To collaborate closely with parents to ensure that they are aware of their child's progress, engaged in their development and in supporting them in their vision for the future
27. To ensure the safety of all students on and off site
28. To model and enforce excellent standards of behaviour within and beyond the faculty
29. To monitor students’ achievement, attendance, uniform, punctuality and behaviour and to respond promptly to issues in line with the school’s policies

School Improvement

30. To support the School’s marketing and recruitment plan through attending events, contributing to marketing materials and via frequent high quality interactions with feeder primary schools
31. To embody the School’s values both on and off site
32. To monitor allocated budgets and ensure value for money at all times
33. To coach and mentor colleagues as appropriate
