Locum Consultant Haematologist in Myeloma and SCT

We are seeking a part-time (8 PA) locum Consultant Haematologist with expertise in all aspects of Myeloma and stem cell transplantation.

The post holder will work in collaboration with the existing consultants, and clinical nurse specialists to provide an expertly led comprehensive range of clinical and laboratory services for patients with myelodysplasia, myeloproliferative disorders, chronic and acute leukaemia's, lymphoproliferative disorders and plasma cell dyscrasias.


Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post are:

* To participate in the weekly myeloma clinic as part of the myeloma multidisciplinary team and provide a liaison with the transplant team for patients undergoing autologous stem cell transplant.
* To be part of the clinical transplant team providing a full range of stem cell transplant activity.
* To be part of the white cell attending team, working in rotation with the other members of the team, to provide robust cover for all patients with haematological malignancies and transplant patients admitted to St George's Hospital.
* Work closely with the existing haemato-oncology consultant team to provide world-class, comprehensive haemato-oncology service.
* Provide consultant input for clinical and laboratory aspects of the haemonc service and work collaboratively with other consultant colleagues in the delivery of the haemonc in-patient and outpatient services.
* Work closely with the Day Unit team to provide high-quality care to haemato-oncology and transplant patients receiving outpatient treatment at the unit.
* Opportunity to continue or develop their expertise in a sub-specialised field within haemato-oncology and transplantation.


Person Specification


Teaching & Training

* Experience in teaching medical students, junior doctors, or allied professionals
* Willingness to participate in educational activities
* Commitment to continuing medical education
* Completion of a teaching qualification or leadership in a formal teaching role
* Experience or training in supervision of medical trainees


Qualifications and Training

* MRCP (or equivalent)
* Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
* Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
* Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
* Experience of the full range of laboratory haematology disciplines with general haematology.
* Higher degree (e.g. MD, PhD) relevant to haematology, transplantation, or myeloma
* FRCPath in Haematology (or equivalent)


Clinical Experience

* Experience in diagnostic and clinical haematology
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients with haematological conditions
* Ability to teach all grades of clinical staff, including those in training
* Experience with allogeneic transplantation
* Experience of managing patients on clinical trials
* Experience of undergraduate teaching Experience or training in supervision of medical trainees


Clinical Skills

* Competent in bone marrow aspirate/trephine, interpretation of flow cytometry, and other diagnostic tools
* Ability to independently manage patients with myeloma, lymphoma, and leukaemia
* Ability to lead multidisciplinary team meetings
* Training management Knowledge of the process for CPA and MHRA
* Familiarity with transplant eligibility criteria and registry liaison


Research and Audit

* Understanding of clinical governance and participation in audit/QI activities
* Evidence of continuing research interest in haematology
* Publication or presentation in national/international haematology conferences
* Active participation in myeloma or transplant clinical trials


Leadership and Management

* Evidence of team working and leadership abilities
* Ability to organise and manage clinical services effectively
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
* Experience in service development or quality improvement projects in haematology
* Experience of budget management
* Proven experience of change management


Other

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Commitment to patient-centred care and safety conditions
* Able to work with/influence senior colleagues across a range of specialties
* Commitment to team working, and respect and consideration for the skills of others
* Able to work against a background of change and uncertainty
* Have 6 months experience working Myeloma or Transplant service
